  • CEO, Founder, Director of Operations

Shania's experience as an adoptee has shaped her life and her career aspirations. She understands the complexities and challenges that come with being adopted, and she is passionate about using her platform to advocate for adoptee rights and promote positive change within the adoption community. As an aspiring therapist, Shania hopes to provide support and guidance to other adoptees who may be struggling with their own experiences.

As an adult adoptee herself, Shania understands the unique challenges and traumas that come with being adopted. Her degree in Clinical Psychology has given her the tools to help others navigate those challenges and thrive in their lives.

One of the ways she has made an impact is through her research on Black Adoptees and mental health. Her findings have been instrumental in shaping her work with The Dunbar Project, which provides healing communities for multiple minority adoptees. She recognizes the importance of having a safe space with people who understand the complexities of adoption and the additional challenges that come with being a minority adoptee.

Through her work, Shania is making a positive impact on the lives of many and helping to create a more inclusive and understanding society.

  • Communications Lead

Louise was adopted in the 1960s when it was the norm not to talk about ‘it’, and the emotional trauma and sociological bias on a baby was little understood. Like most other adoptees, she’s spent her life coming to terms with the effects of this. After finding The Dunbar Project, and realising she’s not alone, she’s keen to use her skills as a former journalist, and public sector communications specialist, to help The Dunbar Project.

  • Support Group Facilitator

Star (Starlena) was given up for adoption at birth and had moved families 4 times before 2 years old. She was adopted into a large Jamaican family, including 3 Social Workers. Her parents also began fostering during her teens. Which brought a very nuanced experience.

She spent much of her 20s ignoring the elephant in the room! Realising her early relinquishment and interrupted attachment experiences and other adopted trauma there was a lot more adoption-specific trauma happening.

Years later, "This is Us" popped up on her TV, and this shifted and unearthed some things. It then led her to her first Dunbar Project meeting, which changed everything. As a Surveyor, Project Manager and Mentor facilitating is her happy place.
